Whiplash and whiplash-associated disorders (WAD) represent a range of injuries to the neck caused by or related to a sudden distortion of the neck[1] associated with extension.[2]
Whiplash is commonly associated with motor vehicle accidents,[citation needed] usually when the vehicle has been hit in the rear;[3] however, the injury can be sustained in many other ways, including falls from stools, bicycles [4][citation needed] or horses.[4][citation needed] It stands out as one of the main injuries covered by the car insurers.[citation needed] In the United Kingdom, 430,000 people made a claim for whiplash in 2007 (75% of the UK's motor insurance claims), accounting for 14% of every driver's premium.[5]
E eu que agora sou grande (e vendi a minha alma ao diabo) trabalho aqui nas Inglaterras numa companhia de seguros, limito-me a dizer que isto é tudo verdade.
E para alguém que vem de um país que (felizmente) ainda não tem destas coisas, confesso que é difícil assimilar isto tudo. Eu que sempre fui defensora da teoria que aqui nas Inglaterras a praga dos processos legais “no win-no fee” ainda não tinha pegado, estou desiludida e irritada.
